The first time most of us realise that there's a head lice problem lurking in our midst is when we noticed that our lovely child seems to keep scratching their head. Head lice are not a pleasant subject but they are common and most of us will have to deal with them at sometime.
Knowing about head lice, the way they move and breed and the different options available will help when it comes to head lice removal.
Everyone wants a quick and easy way to remove the lice and nits but unfortunately there is still no magical quick method to eradicate them. Most methods will work but you do need to put in time and effort to ensure that everything is done properly or you risk the rapid return of these parasites.

If it's the first time you've had to deal with head lice the thing to remember is to take a deep breath and not to over react. Catching head lice is not a reflection on how good a parent you are. Your reaction will also influence how well you child or children cope with the situation.
Remember if one member of your family has head lice there's a very good chance that others have them too and that includes you so everyone's hair needs to be checked so you can assess the situation.
When it comes to types of treatment they can be roughly split into two main methods – home remedy treatments and over-the-counter methods. However which ever method you use you will need to use a comb at some point.
The removal treatment you decide to go for will largely depend on your circumstances and your personal feelings about using chemicals on your children. In years gone by over-the-counter head lice removal relied on pesticide chemicals that are now banned which gave them a very bad reputation. Testing and safety are now a lot tighter but many parents still don't want to risk using them. However if you opt for a bought natural treatment you should be aware that they aren't tested for safety. Natural doesn’t always mean safe.
